FOOD: THE THREE DEADLY DOCTRINES JESUS HATES

Last weekend, our food was about knowing the difference between God’s doctrine and the devil’s doctrine. I promised that this would be our food in different varieties for the next few weeks so we can reject the devil’s doctrines and survive as sheep among wolves.
Today, our weekend food is to help us identify the three deadly doctrines Jesus hates.
Revelation 2:14-15 and 20 says,
“But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.”
“Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.”
Jesus tells us in the text that there are doctrines He hates.
If Christ, through whom you are a Christian, hates them, you must reject them also. If Christ who is the Head of the Church hates them, then every church that allows them is not of Christ.
Therefore, let us examine the three deadly doctrines so we can be well guided.
1. THE DOCTRINE OF BALAAM, THE STUMBLING BLOCK
Balak the king of Moab hired Balaam, a prophet of divination, with enticing gifts to curse the children of Israel. But God dishonored all the sacrifices they offered against Israel, and Balaam confessed saying,
“How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?” (Num 23:8)
So King Balak and Balaam, his satanic prophet, departed in hot disagreement.
Balaam declared expressly that “surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel” (Num 23:23).
That is, nobody can curse the children of Israel except they sin against God and God Himself deals bitterly with them.
King Balak persuaded Balaam with more swelling gifts to do all he could, and he taught the king how to bewitch them so God could destroy them. He taught Balak to send beautiful daughters of Moab to seduce the children of Israel into fornication with them and also to make them eat food sacrificed to idols. Then God would pour His anger on them because those were what He commanded them not to do.
Numbers 25:1-9 tells us how they fell into the bewitchment and God plagued the children of Israel, and 24,000 of them died in the plague.
Revelation 2:14 says, “Balaam taught Balak to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.”
Today also, whoever is teaching you with twisted words against the holy doctrines and motivating you to embrace seducing ways of life is a Balaam sent by Balak to bewitch you into destruction.
2 Peter 2:15-16 calls Balaam a “mad prophet who loved the wages of unrighteousness and was rebuked for his iniquity.” He died shamefully at last. But note that those children of Israel who fell into his bewitchment had been destroyed long before Balaam and Balak ended up miserably.
2. THE DOCTRINE OF THE NICOLAITANS
The apostles appointed seven deacons and one of them was Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch (Acts 6:5).
After their ordination, the faithful works of Stephen and Philip are recorded in the Bible, but nothing distinguished is further heard of Nicolas and some others thereafter.
There are people today who, when appointed into offices in the church, begin to feel above the church members, class themselves, chase shadows, force respect, bully congregants, forsake faithfulness, return to Gentile worldliness, and recruit weak members into ungodliness, teaching division and superiority.
Jesus hates such doctrines:
“So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.” (Rev 2:15)
3. THE DOCTRINE OF JEZEBEL: SEDUCTION, MANIPULATION AND MURDER
Revelation 2:20 says, “…that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.”
Jezebel Lifestyle:
1. Seducing God’s servants into fornication and idolatry –(Rev 2:20).
2. Patronizing, Promoting and Sponsoring False Prophets “The prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table” (1 Kings 18:19)
3. Stirring Against Covenant and Pushing Ungodly Culture Over Christ. She brought idolatry from her father’s house into Ahab’s house and stirred him to embrace the worship of Baal.
“There was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up…”(1 Kings 21:25-26)
4. Manipulation and Fabricating Lies. She manufactured lies against Naboth, manipulated people to endorse it, and had her way to see the end of Naboth (1 Kings 21:8-10)
5. Evil Hospitality. Feeding prophets to compromise them (1 Kings 18:19)
6. Murder of Truth. Silencing true prophets (1 Kings 18:4)
7. *Seduction and Witchcraft. Using style and “authority” to pull people into sin (2 Kings 9:22)
The Bible calls her a false prophetess (Rev 2:20), a symbolic name for a corrupt woman in the church at Thyatira who teaches and leads people astray.
Doctrines of the devil are the rave of the moment. But they have an expiry date. God gives space for those propagating the devil’s doctrines or who have accepted them to repent, because a shameful end and destruction await them.
“I gave her space to repent… I will cast her into a bed” Revelation 2:21-22. The Jezebel doctrine has an expiry date.
Jezebel died a violent death *(2 Kings 9:30–37). She was thrown from a window and eaten by dogs.
Balaam also died a violent death. He was killed by the sword during a war with Midian (Numbers 31:8, Joshua 13:22).
HOW TO CONTEND FOR THE FAITH
Jude 1:3 enjoins us to “Earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
To contend means to fight, to defend, and to refuse to compromise.
EAT THE SCROLL TO SAVE YOURSELF FROM DEVIL’S DOCTRINES
1. I reject every stumbling block of Balaam in my life in Jesus’ name.
2. I refuse to fall into bewitchment in Jesus’ name.
3. I reject spiritual slavery and Nicolaitan control in Jesus’ name.
4. I reject Jezebel’s lifestyle in Jesus’ name.
PRAYER
1. Lord God, expose every Balaam, Nicolaitan, and Jezebel influence around me in Jesus’ name.
2. Heavenly Father, give me grace to contend for the true faith in Jesus’ name.
3. Holy Spirit, keep me from compromise and seduction in Jesus’ name. Amen
