FOOD: SERVING GOD ACCEPTABLY (Part 1)

By: Pastor Toye Ebijomore
(Founder & General Overseer)

Text: Hebrews 12:28-29 – “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.”

The text is an eye-opener that not all service is acceptable before God. Cain served, and Abel served. But only Abel was accepted. What makes service acceptable are:

1. With Reverence and Godly Fear
Hebrews 12:28 says, “let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” God is not an anyhow personality that accepts any kind of treatment to him. He is a consuming fire. Many serve God carelessly today: they come late to His house, handle holy things with unholy familiarity, and offer Him what they cannot offer their boss. Malachi 1:8 says, “…offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.” Acceptable service begins with honour.

2. With a Pure Heart and Clean Hands
Psalm 24:3-4 says, “Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart.” God does not anoint talent, He anoints character. He does not accept service from a vessel that is gifted but defiled. Your life must worship before your lips worship.

3. With Willingness and Not by Compulsion
2 Corinthians 8:12 says, “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” And 1 Peter 5:2 says, “Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly.” God does not accept grudging service. He wants you to serve because you love Him, not because you were forced or you want eye-service.

Eat the scroll this weekend: Adjust yourself to serve God from this weekend with reverence, purity and willingness, not with eye-service.

PRAYER
1. Heavenly Father, forgive me for every careless and irreverent service I have rendered in Jesus’ name.

2. Lord God, give me grace to serve you acceptably in Jesus’ name.

2. O Lord, create in me a clean heart and renew a willing spirit within me to serve you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
