FOOD: HOW TO SURVIVE FALSE DOCTRINE

Jesus says, “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves”(Matt 10:16).
Also in Luke 10:2-3, He says, “The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.”
Apostle Paul likewise warned: “For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.”(Acts 20:29-30).
Wolves in the above context are false doctrines and false teachers against godly teachings, with the aim to capture and destroy the true worshippers of the Lord.
In order to properly understand the meaning of wolves in the three texts above, we should first identify the characteristics of wolves:
1. The howling of wolves. A long, loud sound used to communicate and intimidate.
2. To cry wolf. To give a false alarm or tell lies.
3. How a wolf attacks A wolf captures a sheep by singling out an individual, chasing it down using superior speed and stamina, and delivering a powerful bite to the neck or throat. A wolf watches the flock to find a sheep that is weak, slow, or panicked. Wolves then run fast and work together to cut off the sheep’s escape route. A wolf will jump on the sheep, bite hard to stop it from moving, and bring it down.
FOUR WAYS TO SURVIVE AS A SHEEP AMONG WOLVES
1. RECOGNIZE THE WOLVES
Matthew 7:15 – “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
The Signs are:
1. They draw disciples after themselves, not after Christ. “Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them”(Acts 20:30).
2. They speak perverse things and twist Scripture for gain. “For they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh… those that were clean escaped from them who live in error”(2 Peter 2:18). “Their mouth speaketh great swelling words” (Jude 1:16).
3. They cause division in families, marriages, and ministries.“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them”(Romans 16:17).
2. ARM YOURSELF WITH WISDOM
“Be wise as serpents.” Study the Word daily and know God’s doctrine to spot the fake. “These were more noble… and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11).
“Be harmless as doves” Fight with truth, not insults. “Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Eph 6:17).
Know Your Shepherd and Keep to Him.“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”_(John 10:27)
Don’t Isolate Yourself from the Brethren. A wolf watches the flock to find a sheep that is weak, slow, panicked, and isolated. Then it runs with others to capture and devour such sheep. Hence, beware: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching”(Heb 10:25). You are a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9)
3. PROTECT THE FLOCK“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock…” (Acts 20:28)
If you are a leader, watch. If you are a member, don’t follow blindly. “Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn everyone night and day with tears” (Acts 20:31)
4. PRAY FOR TRUE LABOURERS
Luke 10:2 – “Pray ye… that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”
Ask God to raise teachers who preach the whole counsel of God, not half-truths.

3. Flee from compromise. Don’t eat at Jezebel’s table.
4. Stay in community. Wolves isolate sheep before they devour.
PRAYER
1. Heavenly Father, give me the spirit of wisdom and discernment in Jesus’ name.
2. Lord God, deliver me from wolves in sheep’s clothing in Jesus’ name.
3. Holy Spirit, teach me and lead me into all truth in Jesus’ name. Amen.
